Dr. Gill-Chin Lim Global Award
The Principles that form the basis of the Gill-Chin Lim Global Award are based on humanistic globalization, which seeks a civil society that is based on the human values and basic human needs that are necessary to succeed in the global era of today and tomorrow.
These human values are identified as: peace; love; justice; affluence and equality.
The basic human needs are: food; security; housing; health and education.
The personal qualities one needs in order to realize the ends of humanistic globalization are:
- optimism and the determination to surmount all obstacles and threats to the attainment of these ends;
- eagerness and openness to learn about other cultures and their ways of thinking; and
- pursuit of education as the critical way to enable those around us to shed old behaviors and learn and practice needed reforms.
By participating in voluntary services and public decision-making (e.g., voting), we can act to contribute to needed reforms. By respecting each other and engaging people different from ourselves, we may learn from those differences and at the same time experience what we share in common – especially the basic human values and basic human needs.
